Language and culture in social cognition (LCSC 2019)

The Departments of Cognitive Linguistics and Cultural Linguistics at the Institute of English, Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin (UMCS), are pleased to announce the Second Edition of the Culture • Cognition • Communication conference aimed to offer researchers of different persuasions a convenient forum for sharing ideas and discussing issues concerning the relation between culture, cognition and language from a range of scholarly viewpoints.
Plenary lectures:

- Henryk Kardela, Maria Curie-Sklodowska University in Lublin
We invite papers concerning the relation between language, culture, and the social mind. Suggested topics for discussion include, but are not limited to:
- Cognitive Linguistics and the study of the social mind
- social cognition through a literary lens
- storytelling through the lens of social cognition
- literary and/or intersemiotic translation in a social/sociocultural context
- diachronic approaches to the ways of expressing the social mind in language and cultureacross space and time
- the role(s) of iconicity, multimodality, embodiment, and sociocultural situatedness in social cognition
- methodological challenges and opportunities in the cognitive explorations of the social mind, including problems that lie at the intersection of science and the humanities.Submission deadline: 15 September 2019
